Inspiration
Where does it come from?
Why does it always seem to come at the worst times, or when there isn’t anything you can do about it?
For me, that’s why I always try to have my phone, or a piece of paper and pen with me, or at least close to me, at all times. Sometimes ideas will pop into my head and then just as quickly and leave. Hopefully to come back again.
But back to inspiration…
Mine comes from watching old footage of my performances, seeing what I used to do, how I could add things to what I do now, watching other performers, not just Fire Artists, but everyone, sometimes just a line in a show, or a way of moving, will send me on the road to an idea. I don’t mean outright taking someone’s work, but letting it flow thru and into mine, creating something new.
I have to mention fellow performer (let’s call him J.) He seems to get inspiration from the most random things: jokes, pieces of a conversation, something having nothing to do with anything, and he’s off and running, putting things together for a new routine or part of his act.
I will say, I’m lucky to have a friend like Eegore, who will listen to whatever I come up with, help me work on it, then honestly tell me how to fix it, or if I should go in a different direction.
The bottom line, in my opinion, is never be afraid to try, even if the ideas only make sense to you, try until you know-good or bad. If you’re inspired, listen to the little voice..
But also: Always be safe.
You can see Professor Fire perform live as part of ‘The Show’ at Kip Barry’s Cabaret, located in the Garden Walk in Anaheim.
